Background

Mary was born in the States, moved to the UK in the 70’s where she met her English architect husband and moved to Portugal in 1980. She was trained as an architect, taught art in secondary schools and became an artist in the early 2000’s.

Recently Mary participated in two art residencies. One was at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice where she learned new printing techniques including photo lithography. In April 2025 she took part in an art residency at Studio Faire, Nerac France where she found subject matter in the local village. After photographing a number of abandoned places and creating rough sketches and collages she has been developing final artworks back in her studio.
